Customs VS Cats

In the next couple of posts, I will be shifting the attention more to tigers. Now, I was listening to this author giving this speech about his books (he writes wildlife adventure stories), and he was saying that one of the main reasons tigers are being poached goes as follows: The traditional Chinese medicine uses every part of the tiger body, and so Chinese come to villages in the North of India and offer the residents BIG bucks if they kill a  tiger without damaging its coat (so they club it to death). The villagers agree, as it takes care of the problem of their livestock being hunted as well. I understand that it is their traditional way of making medicine but this has got to stop. True, the tiger population has grown with the increase of reserves, but those not in safety are (of course) in real danger! There is no real way to stop a problem like this. Alternatives can be suggested other than the tiger's parts, but it is hard to break traditions...
